Shell Point Welcomes The Canadian Brass

FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 28, 2008) — The Canadian Brass will be performing as the first concert in the 2008-2009 Fine and Performing Arts Concert Series in the Village Church Auditorium at Shell Point. The event is open to the public and will be held at 7:30pm on Thursday, November 13. Dawn Boren, director of resident life, announced that there are a total of five performances that make up the 2008-2009 Fine and Performing Arts Concert Series.

“The Canadian Brass has performed in concert halls, international festivals, and orchestras throughout the world and are recognized as the world’s leading brass ensemble,” said Boren. “They will offer a wonderful start to this exciting season. Having various performers in this series allows for everyone who appreciates the arts and culture to enjoy the wide array of entertainment.”

The virtuosi of Canadian Brass have made the brass quintet an exciting vehicle for serious concert music. The quintet —for more than 35 years— has a long history of recording classical repertoire and they have a special affinity for Baroque music, which requires the brilliance and musical structure that has become the Canadian Brass’ trademark. They have more than 60 recordings to date which include works by Purcell, Vivaldi, Gabrieli, Pachelbel, Beethoven and Wagner. All are in meticulously crafted transcriptions that are setting new musical traditions in brass performance.

Tickets for this concert are $35 each. There is still time to buy the entire 2008-2009 Fine and Performing Arts Concert Series at a discounted price of $125, a savings of $50. Tickets are currently on sale. To purchase tickets or receive additional information about the concert series, please call (239) 454-2067 for payment information on individual or group packages.
