FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 27, 2017) – Shell Point continues its 2017 Summer Concert Series with a performance from highly acclaimed pianist Richard Dowling. Dowling’s Great Scott! will take place Friday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. in The Village Church at Shell Point.
Great Scott! features all six of Scott Joplin’s piano works used in the 1974 Academy-Award-winning movie The Sting, plus many other well-known and rarely-heard works from the famed composer of classic ragtime. The program will also feature an audience selection, randomly chosen from the remaining complete Joplin piano repertoire. Dowling will conclude with a magnificent piano transcription of A Real Slow Drag, the final number from Scott Joplin’s opera Treemonisha.
Dowling, a native Texan, is the first pianist in history to perform the complete cycle of Scott Joplin’s 53 piano works in public. Hailed by The New York Times as an especially impressive fine pianist, he appears regularly across the United States in solo performances and at jazz/ragtime festivals. Dowling has sold-out recitals in several prestigious performance arenas.
Individual tickets for Great Scott! are now available for $25, and can be purchased online at www.shellpoint.org/concerts or by calling 239-454-2067.
