THE KING’S CROWN AT SHELL POINT CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

King’s Crown Original Assisted Living Facility at Shell Point Retirement Community

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 21, 2012) – Shell Point Retirement Community’s original assisted living facility, King’s Crown, will be celebrating 25 years of care and service in March. The King’s Crown is one of the oldest assisted living facilities in Lee County, and currently features 120 residential units.

Shell Point Retirement Community began in 1968, and during the 1980s it was becoming clear that an assisted living facility was needed to help protect against the potential overuse of the onsite skilled nursing facility, The Pavilion. Shell Point management and residents took their needs to the County Commission, and were eventually given approval to proceed with the construction of the community’s first assisted living facility. Initial plans for this new facility got underway in 1985 with a ground breaking ceremony in the fall of that year.

“Through the years, the retirement industry has continued to grow and evolve, recognizing the ever changing needs for our aging population. Such was the case in 1985,” said Rita Southern, director of assisted living facilities and resident support services. “Shell Point wanted to continue to offer excellent healthcare and lifestyle services to seniors, and was integral in paving the way for assisted living facilities as an industry proving to be just what was needed then and now.”

The King’s Crown residential units range from studios to deluxe floor plans. The facility also boasts an expansive private dining room; community room; billiards parlor; library featuring a computer station; and a variety of activity and gathering spaces, in addition to residents having access to the multitude of Shell Point healthcare services and lifestyle amenities.

Shell Point currently has two other assisted living facilities on site, the Arbor Assisted Living and The Springs. The Arbor Assisted Living is an elegant facility with a total of 132 units, and a variety of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom floor plans. Amenities on site for residents include a full-time activities leader, fitness center, salon, game rooms, chapel, library, and a number of social areas throughout the building.

The Springs (AHCA Licensure is pending), is slated to open in March will offer an additional 105 units to the community for assisted living. The Springs will be open to the public on a month to month private pay basis. The Springs will offer a heated swimming pool, exercise facilities, transportation, dining, 24-hour healthcare staffing, and a professional activities leader who will coordinate high-quality events and activities, educational and entertainment programs, and opportunities for socialization and personal growth.
