Shell Point’s 2017-2018 Concert Series presents Glenn Miller Orchestra Jan. 18

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 26, 2017) – Shell Point Retirement Community continues the Performing Arts program of its 2017-2018 Concert Series with a concert by the Glenn Miller Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18 at the Village Church on The Island at Shell Point. The event is open to the public, with tickets available for purchase online at www.shellpoint.org/concerts or by phone at 239-454-2067.

Known for its unique jazz sound and popular for both concert and swing dance engagements, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered one of the great bands of its time. As a young musician in the late 1920s, Glenn Miller toured with several orchestras, and played and recorded with the likes of Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Eddie Condon and Coleman Hawkins, before forming the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

The present-day Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently ever since. The 19 current members of the Glenn Miller Orchestra hail from all parts of the country, and in 2012, vocalist Nick Hilscher took the helm as band director. The orchestra performs an average of 300 shows a year and has toured all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America and Japan.
