Shell Point Hosts 12th Annual Open House Public Invited to Stroll Through Decades of Past Century

FORT MYERS, FL. (January 21, 2008) – Shell Point Retirement Community will open its doors for the 12th annual Open House on Thursday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This event is free and open to the public.

According to Lynn Schneider, assistant vice president of marketing, the theme of this year’s Open House will be “A Stroll through the Decades.”

“The entire community will be decorated to reflect the different eras of the last 100 years,” said Schneider.

Among the eras to be depicted will be the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, which will be set up in the community park on The Island and will include several items that were originated at the World’s Fair including a Ferris wheel, floral clock, and perfume fountain.  Shell Point’s newest neighborhood, Eagles Preserve will be the site  of the 1930s Old West with a chuck wagon of refreshments and country music.  Additionally, there will be a nod to the Roaring Twenties; the big band era of the fabulous 40s; and to sock-hopping 50s, the Beach-Boy style 60s, and much more.

There will be refreshments, door prizes, demonstrations, a health fair, and a classic car show, plus live entertainment, like big band music, synchronized swimmers at the swimming pool, caricatures, free boat rides – even a rock ‘n roll water ski show on the lake featuring an award winning ski team.  Plus, tours of the community and several decorated models.

“Shell Point is such a unique place to live, with so many services and amenities, and the open house is a perfect way for senior adults to visit the community and see the lifestyle it offers,” says Schneider.

The “Stroll through the Decades” Open House will encompass three neighborhoods – The Island, The Woodlands and Shell Point’s newest neighborhood, Eagles Preserve.  Trams and buses will provide transportation to all events and locations throughout the three neighborhoods.

The Open House will also include tours of five decorated models, ranging from a one-bedroom residence, a two-bedroom traditional, three-bedroom executive and a one-bedroom with a den.  Retirement counselors will be on hand in each model to answer specific questions, while others will present seminars explaining Shell Point’s lifestyle with lifecare model for retirement.  There will be question-and-answer sessions after each presentation.

“Visitors will receive a printed schedule of events and a map when they arrive so they can plan the activities they want to view or participate in throughout the day,” said Schneider.  “This annual event has been a great success in the past, and this year will be better than ever with the many opportunities and activities available throughout the community.”
