SHELL POINT ACADEMY PRESENTS CLASS ON ‘MAKING SHELL POINT COMMUNITY MY HOME’

FORT MYERS, FL (October 27, 2010) – The Academy at Shell Point will offer a class on “Making Shell Point Community My Home” on Tuesday, November 9 – 1:30pm, in The Woodlands at Shell Point.  Dawn Boren, Director of Resident Life; Mary Franklin, Resort Services Manager; and Teri Kollath, Academy and Volunteer Services Manager will discuss the lifestyle qualities of Shell Point.    Admission to the event is free, however, space is limited, so reservations are required and can be made by calling (239) 454-2054.

Shell Point is a resort-like retirement community, and most individuals who visit learn a lot about the Lifecare aspect that is offered to residents.  But there are so many amenities and activities offered in the community, that many residents say that they have “…to choose what not to do, because there is so much offered here.”

“Shell Point is great for so many reasons, one being the excellent lifecare and healthcare that are offered here,” said Kollath. “But what many don’t realize is how much more there is outside of the healthcare realm.  Every single day there are activities, volunteer opportunities, and clubs that meet and do so many exciting things, that it is impossible to get to all of them.”

The Academy at Shell Point is a lifelong learning educational initiative for the residents of the retirement community. The Academy provides anywhere from 70 to 115 classes each trimester, that encompasses a well-rounded curriculum of educational opportunities for senior adults. The Academy at Shell Point was named as one of 2008’s most innovative active aging programs by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), an association that supports professionals who develop wellness/fitness facilities and services for age 50-plus adults.

Shell Point Retirement Community is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community located in Fort Myers just off Summerlin Road, two miles before the Sanibel causeway. Shell Point has received national accreditation from CARF-CCAC, and is a nationally recognized leader in the retirement industry.  The community offers retirement living in a resort-style environment with an 18-hole championship golf course which is open to the public, deep water boating access, and recreational and fitness facilities.  To learn more about Shell Point, visit us at www.shellpoint.org or call 1-800-780-1131.
