SHELL POINT ACADEMY CLASS ON THE ARAB SPRING – ONE YEAR LATER

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 5, 2012)

The Academy at Shell Point invites southwest Florida residents to attend an Academy class on The Arab Spring – One Year Later. The presentation will take place on Monday, May 7 from 6:45pm to 8:15 pm, in the Church Auditorium on The Island at Shell Point Retirement Community. Tickets are required to attend, and can be purchased for $10 each by calling (239) 454-2054.

Shell Point welcomes back Professor Adrian Kerr to discuss the key stepping stones that led to almost simultaneous uprisings across North Africa and the Middle East in the spring of 2011 as he focuses on the Arab Spring. The Middle East has always been an enigma to observers in the West. It was the birthplace of three of the world’s major religions and contains a majority of the planet’s oil and gas. It has been fought over for more than four thousand years and during this time many nations have risen and collapsed, with entire tribes of people completely disappearing. Even today this region is torn by political unrest and conflict.

“Professor Kerr has been a part of our Academy of Lifelong Learning for several years now and always brings some of the most intriguing and informative presentations to our residents and the community,” said Teri Kollath, Manager of Academy and Volunteer Services. “His knowledge about so many cultures and their histories is insightful and amazing, and with this presentation he will help us examine the main events that have caused so much turmoil in this region for the past year by taking attendees back in time to look at the history of this area. Then he will share recent first hand experiences of the area since his presentation to us last January.”
