Free community health care program to address innovation in modern health care

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2019) – Shell Point Retirement Community will conclude its fifth annual 2020 Medical Breakthroughs & Discoveries series on March 30 with a presentation by Jay Saccaro, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Baxter International, Inc.

Free and open to the public, the presentation, entitled “Innovation and Progress at a Modern Healthcare Company,” will offer an overview of the innovation process and approach at Baxter International, Inc., including the company’s focus on customer input in product development. Saccaro will also share specific examples from Baxter’s renal business, where the focus has been on modernizing the devices that are used in home treatment for end-stage renal disease and the use of technology to improve patient experience.

The program will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 30 in the Village Church Auditorium on The Island at Shell Point, 15100 Shell Point Blvd. in Fort Myers. Registration is requested by calling 239-433-7936.

Saccaro is a leader of Baxter International, Inc., a Fortune 500 American health care company that focuses on products to treat hemophilia, kidney disease, immune disorders and other chronic and acute medical conditions. He originally joined the company in 2002 as manager of strategy for the company’s BioScience business, and over the years assumed positions of increasing responsibility, including vice president of financial planning and vice president of finance for the company’s operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as corporate vice president and treasurer. He previously held strategy and business development positions at Clear Channel Communications and the Walt Disney Company, and was also senior vice president and chief financial officer at Hill-Rom Corporation. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in engineering-economic systems from Stanford University.

(Feb. 18, 2020) – Shell Point Retirement Community concludes the Concerts & Conversations program of its 2019-2020 Fine and Performing Arts Series with a performance by ragtime pianist Peter Bergin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 at the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands at Shell Point, 14441 Woodsong Lane in Fort Myers. CUTLINE: Shell Point Retirement Community will present the 2020 Two-Dimensional Art Show and Sale on March 20-21, featuring the creative works of talented Shell Point residents.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2020) – Shell Point Retirement Community invites the public to join its 2020 Two-Dimensional Art Show and Sale, taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21 at Coastal Commons in Coastal Links at Shell Point.

Hosted by creative Shell Point residents, this year’s show will feature talented artists and a variety of media, including oil and acrylic paintings, photographs, watercolors, pastels, collages and other two-dimensional works. All items on display are created by Shell Point residents, and each artist will showcase his or her medium, while giving viewers the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts. Plus, each artist will be present to discuss the artistic process and inspiration behind each piece.

“Shell Point residents put an incredible amount of effort, originality and care into the creation of quality products to be sold at our art events,” said Laura Slack Hubbard, Shell Point resident life director. “Thousands of people have attended this show throughout the years, and the quality of work is outstanding.”

The 2020 Two-Dimensional Art Show and Sale will be held on the second floor of the Coastal Commons, located in Coastal Links at Shell Point, 17500 On Par Blvd. in Fort Myers. Admittance is free; however, fine art is available for purchase by cash or check only. An on-site ATM will be available.

The FGCU Wind Orchestra is conducted by Timothy Yontz, director of bands and head of instrumental studies for the Bower School of Music & the Arts. Comprised of the finest wind and percussion students at Florida Gulf Coast University, the FGCU Wind Orchestra was formed in 2008 and has already performed world premieres and commissioned works.

The Wind Orchestra performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2015 and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in 2018. With strong support of the outstanding studio faculty, every student in the ensemble is given the opportunity to learn from instructors who emphasize expressive musicianship and artistry.

The Queen’s Cartoonists will play music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation. The performances are synchronized to video projections of the original films, and the band leads the audience through a world of virtuosic musicianship, multi-instrumental mayhem and comedy. Tying this diverse concert together are comedic anecdotes involving the cartoons and their composers.

During this performance, expect to hear a repertoire that will include the Golden Age of animation, cult cartoon classics, modern animation and elements of a musical circus.
