Shell Point’s 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series presents Chrysalis Chamber Players April 16

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 25, 2019) – Shell Point Retirement Community’s 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series concludes its Concerts & Conversations program with a performance by Chrysalis Chamber Players at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands at Shell Point, 14441 Woodsong Lane in Fort Myers. The Chrysalis Chamber Players is a nonprofit chamber music ensemble offering a kaleidoscope of high-caliber chamber music. Its members and founders are from South Florida, featuring trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden, flutist Meghan Brachle and pianist Catherine Lan. The group collaborates with a variety of other musicians in innovative programs in Florida and across the country, performing a range of works by classical and contemporary composers at venues including the Marlboro Music Festival, Banff Centre for the Arts, Verbier and Lucerne Festivals in Switzerland, and with the Louisville, Naples, New World and Richmond symphonies, among others.

Bowden is principal trumpet of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra and the Artosphere Festival Orchestra. Brachle has performed with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, New World Symphony, Boca Sinfonia, Symphony of the Americas and the Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra. Lan conducts master classes in the United States, Singapore and Thailand, and serves on the faculty of Broward College and Palm Beach Atlantic University. A co-founder and artistic director of Beaux Arts Chamber Music Series in Naples, Lan also performs with Steinway Artist Tao Lin as Duo Beaux Arts.

Shell Point hosts Dr. Malissa Wood March 26 to address medical breakthroughs in health care

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 13, 2019) – Shell Point hosts the final session of its fourth annual 2019 Medical Breakthroughs & Discoveries Series with a presentation by Dr. Malissa Wood of Massachusetts General Hospital at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26 at the Village Church Auditorium at Shell Point. This educational health care presentation, entitled “Make This the Healthiest Year of Your Life Yet!”is free and open to the public. To learn more or to register, call 239-433-7936.

During this final presentation, Wood will discuss the benefits of exercise toward reducing effects of aging and improving heart health and overall well-being. She will also review helpful steps for adopting a healthy lifestyle, stress management and resiliency tips.

Wood is a full-time clinician, researcher and author with more than 20 years of experience, and currently serves on the leadership council of the American College of Cardiology Women in Cardiology Committee and is the governor-elect for the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.

This presentation is part of Shell Point’s 2019 Medical Breakthroughs & Discoveries series, an annual community health care speaker program that serves as a resource for residents in the greater Fort Myers area. CUTLINE: Shell Point Retirement Community continues its 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series with a performance by Boilermaker Jazz Band at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

The acclaimed Boilermaker Jazz Band is led by Paul Cosentino on clarinet, full-time bandleader who founded the band in 1988 at Carnegie Mellon University. Jennifer McNulty lends her smooth and sultry vocal stylings to ballads, standards and bubblin’ swing numbers. The Boilermaker Jazz Band has performed at major international venues, including Lincoln Center and the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland.
