Story PhotoThe Academy at Shell Point invites Southwest Florida residents to attend an informative presentation by Chauncey Goss entitled, Federal Budget 101. This presentation will take place on Thursday, October 11, at 7pm, in the Village Church Auditorium on The Island at Shell Point Retirement Community.

Goss has been a resident in southwest Florida for 31 years, and established his own fiscal policy consulting firm in 2010, Goss Practical Solutions, LLC. He currently serves as a managing director and provides economic and fiscal policy analysis to help businesses address economic policies coming from Washington DC. Prior to establishing his own practice, Goss served as a senior staffer for the Office of Management and Budget, and he was a Deputy Staff Director for the US House Budget Committee where he worked closely with Congressman Paul Ryan.

POPULAR SHELL POINT MODEL TRAIN ROOM ATTRACTION OPEN FOR VISITORS

FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 26, 2012)

Story PhotoFort Myers, Fla. (September 26, 2012) — The Gulf Coast Model Railroad at Shell Point Retirement Community is now open for tours. Last year thousands of visitors toured the train room, and this year many new upgrades have been added.

Visitors from all over the Southwest Florida area are welcome to stop by and see this 40’ X 40’ model train display in the shape of the state of Florida. Some of its features include hundreds of recognizable geographic landmarks such as Tallahassee’s old Capitol Building, Pensacola freight yards, the Gainesville Gator Bowl, Epcot and Disney World, Kennedy Space Center with an orbiting Space Shuttle, Miami’s famous hotels, the Everglades and even Shell Point Retirement Community. The “Train Room,” as it is called by the Shell Point residents, is located on The Island at Shell Point and offers a unique look at the historic and modern sites throughout the state.

SHELL POINT HOSTS A FREE OPEN HOUSE FOR THE PUBLIC

Story PhotoShell Point Retirement Community will host its annual Fall Open House on Thursday, October 25, from 11am until 3pm. This event is free and open to the public. The Fall Open House will offer visitors the chance tour the community in a relaxed atmosphere.

GOLFERS INVITED TO THE 9TH ANNUAL SHELL POINT OPEN

FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 20, 2012)

Story PhotoGolfers are invited to participate in the 9th annual Shell Point Open Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, November 9, 2012, at the Shell Point Golf Club in Fort Myers. The tournament, presented by the Legacy Foundation, will raise funds for the Waterside Medical Complex which offers medical and healthcare services to residents of Shell Point and the surrounding local community. This complex includes the Larsen Pavilion, a 219 bed skilled nursing facility, a state-of-art rehabilitation center, and many more healthcare services.

“This tournament is just one way that we can help support a great cause while also having a lot of fun,” said Timothy Stephenson, executive director of the Legacy Foundation. “For our 9th year, we are offering a new twist on the game by playing a step-aside scramble. I think everyone will really enjoy it!”

CANDIDATE FORUM TO BE HELD AT SHELL POINT

Story PhotoThe Academy of Lifelong Learning at Shell Point Retirement Community welcomes The League of Women Voters of Lee County to present a local Candidate Forum at Shell Point on Thursday, October 4, at 7pm. This forum is open to the public and will take place at the Village Church Auditorium on The Island at Shell Point. For questions related to this event, please call (239) 489-8472.

From 7:00pm until 8:30pm, the forum will take place for the offices of District 19 – Congressional, District 30 – Florida Senate, and District 3 – County Commission. Following the official forum attendees will have the opportunity to ‘Meet and Greet’ with the candidates from 8:30pm until 9:00pm.
