FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 30, 2011) – Shell Point Retirement Community will host an Assisted Living Open House on Saturday, January 7, from 10am to 3pm at the Arbor Assisted Living facility located in the Woodlands at Shell Point. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the assisted living options at Shell Point, as well as visit the mini-health fair that will offer vision screenings, blood pressure checks, and balance assessments. While at the open house, individuals can participate in personally-guided tours of the building and attend an informative presentation about the lifestyle and care assisted living residents receive.
“As our aging seniors in Southwest Florida struggle during tough economic times we want to make sure that our community can offer a variety of choices for their lifestyles and needs,” said Rita Southern, director of assisted living facilities and resident support services. “Assisted Living offers individuals more of a home-like environment, while improving the daily quality of life through a variety of amenities.”

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 20, 2011) – Residents of Shell Point Retirement Community have many talents, and many of these residents use their talents to create unique items that are sold in the Shell Point Gift Shop. The Gift Shop is open to the public for anyone who is searching for unique handcrafted gifts. The shop is located on The Island at Shell Point next to the Guest House and from October 1 to May 31 the hours are from 9:30am to 3:30pm Monday through Saturday.
“The crafts created by the Shell Point resident artisans span the creative continuum from jewelry to woodworking, to fine needlework. Some of the painting and photography is represented in one-of-a-kind greeting cards,” said Teri Kollath, manager of The Academy of Lifelong Learning and Volunteer Services for Shell Point. “A lot of time and dedication goes into each item sold there, and additionally the entire Gift Shop is operated by resident volunteers. Many items are created in our resident woodshop, pottery studio, stained glass and lapidary studio, painting studio and even books from resident authors are represented.”

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 19, 2011) – Shell Point Retirement Community offers on-site salon and spa services to its residents, as well as the general public, in The Salon & Spa at Shell Point. They recently completed major renovations that have expanded their services to meet a greater number of clients.
“We are so excited with the recent improvement and additions to The Salon & Spa at Shell Point,” said Robyn Church, salon manager for Shell Point Retirement Community. “With the renovations complete, we can now offer more services to more people. We have always had a full service salon, but now we can add new clients while also making sure that our current clientele continues to receive great service.”

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 8, 2011) – The Village Church at Shell Point Retirement Community will welcome Tim Zimmerman & The King’s Brass for two evening performances in January. Both concerts will be held in the Village Church Auditorium on The Island at Shell Point with the first concert on Sunday, January 8, at 6:15pm; and the second concert on Monday, January 9, at 7:15pm.
Back by popular demand, Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass will be back to perform at Shell Point and audience members will be privileged to participate in live video recordings of the King’s Brass concerts. Renowned for their presentations of hymn classics with a contemporary flair, the King’s Brass features three trumpets, three trombones, a tuba, percussion, and keyboards. Each instrument blends together to create a show of innovative worship for the enjoyment of all generations.

The 8TH Annual Charity Shell Point Open Focused on Patriotic Theme for 11-11-11
FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 7, 2011) – The “Red, White and Blue Scramble”, Shell Point’s 8th annual charity Shell Point Open Golf Tournament, raised $20,000 that will benefit the Waterside Medical Complex which offers medical and healthcare services to residents of Shell Point and the surrounding local community. This complex includes the Larsen Pavilion (a 219 bed skilled nursing facility), a state-of-art rehabilitation center, and many more healthcare services.
This year the tournament took place on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Shell Point Golf Club, and a special ceremony was held to recognize the courageous efforts of all veterans. Before the tee off, all the veterans who were present gathered for a group photo and received a special patriotic golf marker.
“This year we hosted the tournament on a very special day, 11-11-11. It was truly an honor to meet all those in attendance who have, and still do serve our amazing country,” said Timothy Stephenson, executive director of the Legacy Foundation. “This was our 8th year hosting the Shell Point Open, and every year we continue to receive overwhelming support. Golfers and sponsors alike continue to support and enjoy this tournament because of developing friendships and the opportunity to help a worthwhile cause.”
