FINAL CONCERT IN SHELL POINT’S SECOND ANNUAL SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 25, 2011) – The 2011 Summer Music Concert Series at Shell Point Retirement Community will present Reiko and Friends as its final concert of the season. This performance will take place on Thursday, August 18, at 7:30pm and is open to the general public.

SHELL POINT HELPING LOCAL FATHER AND SON PREPARE FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 22, 2011) – Shell Point Golf Club is helping local residents, Bob and Jacob Miller, prepare for the Special Olympics golf division. Bob and Jacob, father and son, will participate in the 2011 Special Olympics as a team, and this will be their fourth year together. The new Community Thrift Store for Southwest Florida Has Successful Opening Weekend!

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 19, 2011) – Shell Point Retirement Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors in Southwest Florida, recently opened a new venture in Southwest Florida, the Community Thrift Store in South Ft. Myers. The Grand Opening Weekend in early July was a huge success, and many visitors were finding great deals on every shelf! The Community Thrift Store is located at 15501-3 Old McGregor Road next to Planet Fitness in Miner’s Plaza (the old Kiwanis Thrift Store location) on the corner of McGregor Boulevard and Gladiolus Drive.Story PhotoA dedicated group of around 20 staff members and volunteers were on hand to help shoppers navigate through the store, ring up orders, and carry large purchases to vehicles in the parking lot. Teri Kollath, manager of volunteer services and The Academy for Shell Point, said, “More than 75 residents have stepped into a variety of volunteer roles at the Thrift Store – and five more residents signed up to volunteer on the first day!”

THE 8TH ANNUAL SHELL POINT OPEN FOCUSES ON PATRIOTIC THEME

FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 18, 2011) – The “Red, White and Blue Scramble”, Shell Point’s 8th annual Shell Point Open Golf Tournament, will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Shell Point Golf Club in Fort Myers announced Timothy Stephenson, Executive Director of the Legacy Foundation at Shell Point. The tournament, presented by The Legacy Foundation, will raise funds for the Waterside Medical Complex which offers medical and healthcare services to residents of Shell Point and the surrounding local community. This complex includes the Larsen Pavilion, a 219 bed skilled nursing facility, a state-of-art rehabilitation center, and many more healthcare services.Story Photo

SHELL POINT ACADEMY OFFERS CLASS ON THE EVERGLADES

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 1, 2011) – The Academy at Shell Point invites the public to attend a presentation by Kristie Anders, Education Director for Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation. This free event will take place on Friday, July 29, from 1:45pm to 3:15pm in the Social Center on The Island at Shell Point Retirement Community.Story Photo

Anders will focus on the Everglades, Florida’s largest wilderness, for this presentation. Since our region is downstream, we are affected by the changes in that environment. This presentation will offer an overview of this stunning and vulnerable place.
