Shell Point Hosted WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM to Encourage Wellness
FORT MYERS, FL (June 29, 2009) — Shell Point Retirement Community hosted a weight-loss program for its employees, called the Biggest Loser, which was named after the popular reality TV show. The Shell Point program began on March 30 and occurred over a three month period, ending on June 22, with 112 employees from 21 departments participating in the program.

FORT MYERS, FL (June 29, 2009) — Residents of Southwest Florida who would like to learn about resort style retirement options and lifecare, are invited to attend one of several informational meetings at Shell Point Retirement Community. One of Shell Point’s experienced retirement counselors will explain the numerous benefits received when becoming a resident at Shell Point.
These meetings will be held three times a week in the Welcome Center at Shell Point, which is located on the Island. The dates and times are as follows:
Tuesdays at 9am on July 7, 14, 21, and 28
Wednesdays at 9am on July 8, 15, 22, and 29
Thursdays at 10am on July 9, 16, 23, and 30

FORT MYERS, FL (June 5, 2009) — Shell Point Retirement Community was named as the recipient of the Fourth Annual Uncommon Friends Business Ethics Award at “An Uncommon Evening” held Thursday, June 4, at Harborside Event Center in downtown Fort Myers.
The Uncommon Friends Foundation was established in 1993 and named after the book written by local Fort Myers real estate developer James Newton who chronicled his unique and inspiring friendships with five uncommon men: inventor Thomas Edison; auto magnate Henry Ford; tire manufacturer Harvey Firestone; Nobel prize-winning surgeon Dr. Alexis Carrel; and famed aviator Charles Lindbergh. Inspired by the characteristics and principles outlined in Newton’s book, The Uncommon Friends Foundation was established as a character education and business ethics foundation whose mission is to “instill ethics, moral values, and a sense of purpose in tomorrow’s leaders.” The foundation’s mission is accomplished through curriculum that spans all age levels, business ethics programs, scholarships, and the Legacy Speakers Series. The Uncommon Friends Foundation instituted the Business Ethics Award to highlight the critical importance of ethical behavior in business and industry.

FORT MYERS, FL (June 3, 2009) — The public is invited to attend a seminar on the changes in Medicare and healthcare sponsored by the Shell Point Academy at Shell Point Retirement Community. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, June 23, beginning at 7:15pm in the Village Church Auditorium, which is located on The Island at Shell Point. The scheduled presenter will be Ronald D. Castellanos, M.D., Commissioner, Medicare Payment Advisory Commission; and founding member of Southwest Florida Urologic Associates, where he has practiced for the past thirty years. “Medicare and healthcare are important topics among our residents at Shell Point, as well as members of the Southwest Florida Community,” said Teri Kollath, Manager of Academy and Volunteer Services. “This presentation will offer information on how changes in these areas may affect you personally and our community locally.”

Shell Point Hosts WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM to Encourage Wellness
FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 1, 2009) — Shell Point Retirement Community is hosting the organization’s first annual weight-loss program for employees and has named it after the popular reality TV show, Biggest Loser. The Shell Point program began on March 30 and is set to occur over a three month period, ending on June 22. The goal for Shell Point participants is to lose a total of 1,000 pounds as a team. There are 112 employees from 21 departments participating in the program.
“We offer a number of wellness programs for our residents and we thought it would be a great idea to use some of those resources to encourage our employees to develop healthier lifestyles as well,” said Mary Franklin, resort services manager for Shell Point.
