FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 31, 2008) — Tim Zimmerman and The King’s Brass are returning to the Village Church at Shell Point to offer another lively performance to concert goers. Two performances will be offered, one on Sunday January 11, at 6:15pm; and the other on Monday January 12, at 7:15pm.
“The performance Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass offered last year, left the residents and concert goers asking for them to return during the 2008-2009 Season of Praise,” said Randy Woods, minister of worship and music for The Village Church. “They are just as excited to be welcomed back to the community to perform as our residents are to have them.”

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 30, 2008) — Shell Point Retirement Community recently completed a 24 million dollar renovation to expand and upgrade the skilled nursing facility on The Island, known as the Larsen Pavilion. Originally built in 1971, the Larsen Pavilion is licensed for 219 beds and serves both residents of Shell Point and the outside community. The facility is fully staffed with two full-time on-site physicians, a nurse practitioner, and a trained nursing staff. The facility accepts Medicare patients who need short term rehabilitation following a surgery or illness, as well as skilled nursing services for long term care.
“The Larsen Pavilion is home to so many residents, and with a growing population, as well as newer styles of architecture, this upgrade was one that residents and staff were looking forward to,” said Steve Minniear, Vice President of Health Care Services for Shell Point Retirement Community. “The numerous improvements from this renovation have brought a new level of outstanding quality and services for not only the residents, but the staff as well.”

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 24, 2008) — Florida Governor Charlie Christ has reappointed Shell Point President Peter Dys to another three year term for the Governor’s Continuing Care Advisory Council. Dys has been a member of this council since 2005, and in the upcoming term, he will serve as the Council Chairman.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 22, 2008) — The Country Inn & Suites, on Summerlin road, just before Sanibel Island, has been awarded the 1-Palm Green Lodging Certificate, announced Brian J. French, General Manager for the hotel. This designation is only awarded to hotels which are showing a concerted effort to be environmentally conscious. Country Inn & Suites, which is owned by Shell Point Retirement Community, has been in operation at this location since 2001.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 19, 2008) — Shell Point Retirement Community was the only Lee County nursing facility to earn 5 Stars recently from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This recognition places the Shell Point Pavilion in the top 10% of the best nursing facilities in the state of Florida. Shell Point is one of only four nursing facilities within 100 miles to have received the 5-Star recognition from the CMS.

(December 3, 2008) — Fort Myers, Fl (December 3, 2008) — Shell Point Retirement Community launched the Suzy Q IV, a 26 foot Fiesta Triton pontoon boat that was donated through a generous resident contribution for the use and enjoyment of residents and their visitors. A dedication ceremony was held at the boat docks located on the Island of Shell Point and hosted close to 100 guests that included residents, their family members and staff of Shell Point.
