In the wake of Hurricane Ian’s devastating impact on our state and local community, we are reminded that life is precious and people are truly at their best serving together.

“ I weathered the storm in the hurricane shelter at Shell Point. The staff made it the best experience possible. At this point, I am high on praise for Shell Point and their above and beyond efforts. ”

The day after Hurricane Ian, residents remained in the generator-powered shelters while Shell Point management conducted an immediate post-storm assessment. It revealed the considerable damage the campus sustained—including downed trees and landscaping debris, broken utility poles, overturned cars and boats, and battered buildings. Clean up and repairs began immediately, and restoration efforts continue today as residents return to enjoying Shell Point’s amenities, programs and services.

“ I can’t think of anything they could do to make me happier here at Shell Point. During the storm, it was incredible how Shell Point cared for us in the hurricane shelter and provided the food and the facilities we needed. I can’t imagine a place that has gone so far above and beyond taking care of their people. ”

“ As I reflect upon the storm, I realize I already knew that the foundation for the culture at Shell Point was based on our mission and core beliefs of life, love, stewardship, and integrity,” said Shell Point President Martin Schappell. “However, I learned that this culture has indeed permeated all levels of our community as our compassionate and resilient residents and staff demonstrated how dedicated they are the service of God and the care of His people. I am truly proud to be a part of the Shell Point family.

“ Our parents live at Shell Point and all is well with them. My sister and I were trying to get them to come to us, but they are very happy where they are. They just moved there and we are so glad they are living at Shell Point. ”

At our best, together. In the wake of Hurricane Ian’s devastating impact on our state and local community, we are reminded that life is precious—and people are truly at their best serving together.

“ Thank you to all the staff. We feel truly cared for. As relatively new residents, it has reaffirmed our decision to move here! ”
