FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 17, 2008) — Mark Tesoro, MA, recently joined the Shell Point Memory Care department as the Program Manager according to Steve Minniear, Vice President of Healthcare Services for Shell Point Retirement Community.
Shell Point’s Memory Care Center, located in the Larsen Pavilion, dedicates an entire floor of resources to patients in need of these services. Therapeutic recreation programs are tailored to strengthen both mind and body. Those with early-stage memory loss reside in a separate area, so that they may enjoy the highest degree of independence possible. With a staff of five full-time physicians, two nurse practitioners, 66 licensed nurses, 89 certified nursing assistants, and a myriad of other health care professionals including social workers and therapists, Shell Point focuses on exceeding the expectations of care and services that are offered. Shell Point is working at the forefront of healthcare with local community groups, and making advances in the field, which ensures that patients in the Larsen Pavilion receive the best care available.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 5, 2008) — The Southwest Florida Symphony will perform two concerts at Shell Point Retirement Community in the second annual Southwest Florida Symphony Concert Series hosted by the community according to Dawn Boren, director of resort services. This series will feature two concerts including:

Southwest Florida Symphony Chorus of Fort Myers and Sarasota’s Key Chorale combine their 200+ voices to present an awe-inspiring concert of American choral music. This will be your only opportunity to hear these preeminent choirs in concert together before they embark on a summer 2009 European Tour to France and Italy. Joseph Caulkins, Conductor and director has planned a wonderful program. It will highlight music by American composers Randall Thompson, Morten Lauridsen, Samuel Barber, and Mack Wilberg.

FORT MYERS, FL (June 10, 2008) – Florida State Senator Burt Saunders spoke to residents of Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers on Tuesday, June 10, at a Town Hall Community Forum. The forum was presented as a session of the Academy at Shell Point, the community’s lifelong learning and continuing education program. Senator Saunders covered a variety of topics important to seniors including a recap of recent legislative activity that occurred in Tallahassee during the 60 day session starting in March and ending in May.
More than 200 people attended this event which was held at the Village Church at Shell Point Retirement Community.
The program opened with remarks by Peter Dys, who has served as president of Shell Point Retirement Community since 1985, and serves on the Governor’s Continuing Care Advisory Council for the State of Florida. Following his comments, Dys introduced Senator Saunders who spoke for approximately one hour about major legislative issues including energy, the environment and taxes. After his remarks, Senator Saunders answered questions from seniors in the audience who expressed a variety of concerns including energy questions in relation to the nuclear power plants, funding for child abuse, immigration, Ethanol options, and single pay medical services.
