The 10th Annual Shell Point Open Charity Golf Tournament, presented by the Legacy Foundation at Shell Point, hosted 124 golfers and raised $25,000 to benefit the community’s Memory Care Center that serves senior adults who have memory loss or dementia from Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases.
“Golfers and sponsors alike continue to support this tournament each year not only because of the camaraderie, but because of the opportunity to help with a worthwhile cause,” said Timothy Stephenson, executive director of the Legacy Foundation. “This tournament is just one way that we can help individuals receive the best memory care possible, while also having some fun playing Shell Point’s newly renovated course,” he added.

A record number of 45 young golfers ranging from age 7 to 16 participated in the free Shell Point Golf Club Junior Golf Camp that was sponsored by a generous donation from the Shell Point Men’s Golf Association. The four-day camp included range time with certified golf professionals, as well as actual course play.
Shell Point resident AJ Marinin, president of the Men’s Golf Association, said, “We felt, as a group, that is was important to support up-and-coming players. It’s always nice to get some young golfers out at Shell Point Golf Club!”
Golf Course Manager and PGA Professional Michael Raber added, “We were thrilled to welcome such a large group of young players who were eager to learn more about the great game of golf. It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved.”
Shell Point Golf Club is an 18-hole Championship Golf Course that opened in 2000 and was designed by Gordon Lewis. The course offers a grass driving range and practice green, lessons, a fully-stocked pro shop and snack bar. The course is open to the public and is located at the entrance to Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers, Florida, just off Summerlin Road, two miles before the Sanibel Island Causeway. Shell Point Golf Club will offer a free Junior Golf Camp for children between the ages of 7 and 16. Sponsored by a generous donation from the Shell Point Men’s Golf Association, the four-day camp will be held Tuesday, May 28, through Friday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each day will include range time with two certified golf professionals as well as actual course play. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

The tournament, presented by the Legacy Foundation, will raise funds for the Waterside Medical Complex which offers medical and healthcare services to residents of Shell Point and the surrounding local community. Summer Clinics Offered For Golfers Age 7 to 15
The Shell Point Golf Club will offer a Junior Golf Camp to golfers age 7 to 15 years old. The four day camp will be held at the Shell Point Golf Club from 9am to 12:30pm on June 4, 5, 6, and 7.
Classes will be directed by Assistant PGA Professional John Alfuth and Teaching Professional Steve Pereira, while being supervised by PGA Golf Professional, Michael Raber. The program will review all aspects involved with the game of golf including etiquette, rules, short game, and full swing. The cost is $100 for the camp and it is recommended that participating juniors have their own golf clubs and pull cart.
