Join Broadway Pops veterans Jennifer Hope Wills, Sean MacLaughlin and Rob Gallagher, with New York City-based orchestrator and arranger Ryan Shirar, as they bring “The Golden Years of Broadway” to life. (Oct. 24, 2018) – Shell Point Retirement Community kicks off the Concerts and Conversations program of its 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series with a performance by pianist, David Crohan, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands at Shell Point, 15100 Shell Point Blvd. in Fort Myers. Blind since birth, Crohan has become one of the most versatile pianists performing today, crossing the traditional boundaries between classical and jazz music with ease and sophistication. Crohan displayed musical precociousness at the age of three, and later earned his master’s degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music. His distinguished audiences have included Bill and Hillary Clinton, Lady Bird Johnson, James Taylor, Carly Simon and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

During this performance, Crohan will include music from his vast repertoire that spans from Beethoven, Scott Joplin and Andrew Lloyd Webber to the Beatles and Billy Joel. The program will draw on Crohan’s extensive classical training and expertise in music from bygone eras.

Hosted by creative Shell Point residents, the annual event will feature one-of-a-kind items created or enhanced by more than 60 talented Shell Point residents. The Artists and Artisans Holiday Bazaar provides guests with an array of unique, hand-designed items and novelty gifts in time for the holiday season, including specialty Christmas décor, Christmas novelties, stylish totes, jewelry, intricate wood sculptures, three-dimensional paper crafts, homemade tasty goodies, children’s clothing, stained glass, books, scarves and more.

Fall lineup to feature monthly performances November through April

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct. 16, 2018) – Shell Point Retirement Community has announced its 2018-2019 Fine and Performing Arts Series, which brings a variety of local and international performers to Shell Point’s campus in four distinct musical series: Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Concerts and Conversations, and Southwest Florida Symphony. “The 16th season of the Shell Point Fine and Performing Arts Series is filled with an impressive array of talented artists and dynamic performances,” said Laura Slack, director of resident life at Shell Point Retirement Community. “With three distinct musical series, along with skills of resident artists and artisans, this season offers something for everyone.”

The Fine Arts series highlights the artistry of Shell Point resident artists and artisans with three annual shows held during the 2018-2019 season. These free shows will showcase the creative work of many talented residents, and ranges from photography and painting to three-dimensional sculptures and intricate quilts.

  • Shell Point Artists and Artisans Holiday Bazaar – Friday, Nov. 2 and & Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Village Church on The Island at Shell Point.
  • Shell Point Artists and Artisans Spring Fling – Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Woodlands Commons at The Woodlands at Shell Point.
  • 2019 Shell Point Quilt Show – Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m., Sunday, March 3 at noon, and Monday, March 4 at 10 a.m. in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands at Shell Point.

The Performing Arts series features five concerts, with performances including some of Broadway’s most well-known hits, classical pieces from an award-winning ensemble and a big band musical performance from a group of internationally celebrated musicians. Concerts in this series will be held in The Village Church Auditorium on The Island at Shell Point. This year’s performances include:

  • The Golden Years of Broadway – Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
  • Memphis Motown Soul Experience – Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.
  • Vienna Boys Choir – Tuesday, 26 at 7 p.m.
  • Benny Goodman: When Swing Was King – Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Siberian Virtuosi – Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m.

Individual tickets for the Performing Arts series cost $40. Advance ticket packages are also available by musical series and provide savings up to $35.

Five Concerts and Conversations events will take place in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands at Shell Point, which allow for an intimate, chamber-style performance, followed by refreshments and the opportunity to meet the performers. The Concerts and Conversations series includes performances by:

Shell Point’s 2017-2018 Concert Series presents “My Sinatra” starring Cary Hoffman April 17

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2018) – Shell Point Retirement Community closes out its show-stopping 2017-2018 Performing Arts Concert Series program with “My Sinatra,” starring Cary Hoffman. Curtains open at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 at the Village Church at Shell Point, 15100 Shell Point Blvd. in Fort Myers. Hoffman translates his celebrated PBS special into a hilarious biographical one-man musical play. Hoffman’s poignant and high-energy performance centers on the love and admiration he holds for his hero, Frank Sinatra, and explores the perils of wanting to become somebody else.

Hoffman will captivate audiences with his personal account of growing up fatherless with three musician uncles, who played on some of Sinatra’s greatest recordings, turning Sinatra into a fantasy father. Throughout the performance, Hoffman weaves in more than 20 classic Sinatra songs, creating a musical score about his lifelong obsession. This final 2017-2018 Performing Arts Series concert is not one to miss.
