CANTUS, ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS PART OF THE SHELL POINT 2011/2012 FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS CONCERT SERIES

FORT MYERS, Fla. (January 5, 2012) – The next concert in Shell Point Retirement Community’s Fine and Performing Arts Concert Series will be Cantus, On the Shoulders of Giants. This performance will take place on Tuesday, January 31, at 7:30pm in the Village Church Auditorium on The Island.
“We are very excited to offer this unique performance of Cantus, On the Shoulders of Giants in the Fine and Performing Arts concert series this year,” said Dawn Boren, director of resident life. “Our 2011-2012 Fine and Performing Arts Concert Series has been receiving rave reviews so far, and we are not even half way through the season yet!”

With vocal versatility, artistic excellence, and charismatic personality, Cantus, a nine-voice men’s ensemble, will present On the Shoulders of Giants. The title of their program is derived from Sir Isaac Newton’s quotation, “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants,” an obvious homage to the great thinkers that came before him. To Cantus, that means performing masterworks for men’s voices by master composers such as Liszt, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, and more in the first half of the show. The second half will speak of a different type of giants – bringing the sounds of larger-than-life personalities and folk heroes such as Frankenstein, Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, and Goliath. Winner of the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence from Chorus America, Cantus has been hailed as “the premier men’s vocal ensemble in the United States.”

Tickets for the concerts are $35 each, and can be purchased at www.shellpoint.org/concerts . If you have any questions, please call (239) 454-2067.
