2017 Shell Point Summer Concert Series Welcomes Amernet String Quartet

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 27, 2017) – Shell Point continues its 2017 Summer Concert Series with a performance from the Amernet String Quartet on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Social Center on The Island.

The Amernet String Quartet serves as an ensemble-in-residence at Florida International University in Miami. The foursome is composed of cellist Jason Calloway, along with violinists Misha Vitenson, Franz Felkl, and violist Michael Klotz.

Praised for their “intelligence” and “immensely satisfying” playing by the New York Times, the group’s sound has been described as “complex with an old world flavor and superbly brilliant technique.” The quartets’ combination of technical ability and extraordinary beauty of sound are derived from many of today’s local composers.

2017 Shell Point Summer Concert Series Welcomes Wild Coffee Duo

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 27, 2017) – Shell Point will continue its 2017 Summer Concert Series with an engaging performance from Wild Coffee Duo on Thursday, Sept. 7. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Social Center on The Island.

Wild Coffee Duo formed in 2015 by pianist Abbey Allison and cellist Susie Kelly. This classically trained music group will present an engaging repertoire that draws on a variety of musical styles. The versatile pair is dedicated to presenting chamber music to audiences in Southwest Florida.

Pianist Abbey Allison holds a dual degree in piano performance and string education from Ithaca College. She has worked with both student and professional musicians, ranging from national competition winners and contemporary music specialists to performers on live radio.

Cellist Susie Kelly is a member of the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra and Southwest Florida Symphony, where she served as principal cellist for seven years. Kelly received a bachelor’s degree in cello performance and master’s in chamber music from the University of South Florida.

Shell Point Announces 2017 Summer Concert Series

Six Performances Showcase Local Talent for Southwest Florida Audiences

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 27, 2017) – Tickets are now available for Shell Point Retirement Community’s 2017 Summer Concert Series, which features six performances that begin in May and continue through September. The series offers diverse, affordable options for musical entertainment during the summer.

Gulfshore Children’s Ballet, Pianist Richard Dowling Presents Great Scott, and the Miami Music Festival begin at 7:30 p.m. in The Village Church on the The Island, 15100 Shell Point Blvd., Fort Myers; individual tickets cost $25. The Sanibel Trio, Amernet String Quartet, and the Wild Coffee Duo begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands, 14441 Woodsong Lane, Fort Myers, tickets for those events cost $20. Summer Concert Series Performance Summary                                                                    Watch as Gulfshore Children’s Ballet brings Shakespeare’s classic tale, A Midsummer Night’s Dream come to life on stage. Gulfshore Ballet, Southwest Florida’s premier not-for-profit school of classical ballet, founded in 2000, raises an awareness and appreciation of classical ballet in Lee County. The highly acclaimed group of dancers will perform at Shell Point on Friday, May 12.

The Sanibel Trio is an unusual combination of a violinist, violist and a pianist all of whom are residents of Sanibel Island. Renata Arado, Espen Lilleslatten, and Erik Entwistle formed their intimate group in 2016. The unique mixture of instruments allows audiences to experience both familiar and lesser-known musical masterpieces, as well as works that have been composed or arranged especially for the group. 2017 Shell Point Summer Concert Series Welcomes Pianist Richard Dowling

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 27, 2017) – Shell Point continues its 2017 Summer Concert Series with a performance from highly acclaimed pianist Richard Dowling. Dowling’s Great Scott! will take place Friday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. in The Village Church at Shell Point.

Great Scott! features all six of Scott Joplin’s piano works used in the 1974 Academy-Award-winning movie The Sting, plus many other well-known and rarely-heard works from the famed composer of classic ragtime. The program will also feature an audience selection, randomly chosen from the remaining complete Joplin piano repertoire. Dowling will conclude with a magnificent piano transcription of A Real Slow Drag, the final number from Scott Joplin’s opera Treemonisha.

Dowling, a native Texan, is the first pianist in history to perform the complete cycle of Scott Joplin’s 53 piano works in public. Hailed by The New York Times as an especially impressive fine pianist, he appears regularly across the United States in solo performances and at jazz/ragtime festivals. Dowling has sold-out recitals in several prestigious performance arenas.
