Residents of Shell Point Retirement Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors in Southwest Florida, hosted their annual summer school supply drive to assist children and grandchildren of staff for the retirement community.
“We are most fortunate that our residents have, once again, extended their generosity and raised $11,000 to help provide employee’s children and grandchildren with their necessary ‘back to school’ supplies,” said Karen Anderson, AVP of Human Resources.

Shell Point Retirement Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors in Southwest Florida, opened a new venture in Southwest Florida one year ago, the Community Thrift Store. The first year of operation was so successful, that in the spring, The Community Thrift Store had to expand into a larger space located right next door! The newly expanded space is located in the same shopping center at 15501-2 Old McGregor Blvd, Ft Myers, next to Planet Fitness in the Iona area of South Ft Myers. Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am – 4pm.

The event will take place on Tuesday, September 11, from 10:00am to 11:30am, in the Grand Cypress Room of The Woodlands at Shell Point Retirement Community. Professor Adrian Kerr, a well known author and educator, returns to Shell Point to trace Hong Kong’s epic journey from a tiny uninhabited swampy British colony after the Opium War of 1839, to its current status as global financial economic powerhouse and business capital. Meaning ‘Fragrant Harbor,’ the city has a dramatic physical setting with an expansive skyline overlooking the picturesque Victoria Harbor. “We will put Hong Kong in the context of China’s fascinating long and turbulent history and track its rise under the 1997 ‘one country two systems’ mandate,” said Professor Kerr. “We will discuss how it has become the model for the rest of China.”

Anders experienced her first hurricane at age 6, and that was the first of many hurricanes and tropical storms that this island dwelling educator has lived through. In addition to her personal experiences, she will share the scientific information that will help us better understand this phenomenon.

Award Recognizes Creative Excellence in Video Production
FORT MYERS, Fla. (August 10, 2012) – Members of the Marketing and Communications Department of Shell Point Retirement Community received four awards during the 2012 Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Conference in St. Augustine.
Shell Point’s website, www.shellpoint.org, received a Golden Image Award, Judges Award, and Grand Golden Image Award for excellent design and outstanding performance by the Florida Public Relations Association. Additionally, Shell Point’s Discovery Club Program received an Award of Distinction in the category of PR Programs – Promotional/Marketing.
