- Turkey. This lean meat is one of the more protein-rich foods that you will encounter this season, although chicken, fish, and beans are also excellent choices. Protein takes longer to digest, which means you will feel full for longer. It also helps stabilize blood sugar levels, which will help prevent you from going for the cookie jar a second time. If you roast your turkey, consider adding fresh herbs for some flavor and nutrients.
- Vegetables. Low in calories and high in fiber, veggies are another hearty source that will leave you feeling full. For an appetizer, ditch the traditional heavy cheese dips for yogurt-based substitutions. Even veggies and hummus make a great side dish. If you’re going to a party and need something to bring, try baking a vegetable dish with Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, butternut squash, and turnips.
- Salad. It’s no surprise that this deserves a second helping – but don’t go heavy on the cream-based dressings! Consider a lighter vinaigrette on your leafy greens. Passing on croutons and pasta-based salads will also give you more room for that bite of pie.
