Since September 2002, Randy Woods has served on The Village Church Staff as the Minister of Worship & Music. As an organist, pianist and choral director, Randy leads the many talented musicians who combine their efforts to lead the church in worship through the ministry of song. Additionally, he works with the pastoral staff to plan the church worship services and concert ministry by blending the best of contemporary music with the traditional sacred music of the church.
Randy’s journey of faith began in the United Methodist Church of Newton Hamilton, Pa, where he was born and raised. As a teenager, he dedicated his life to Christ and sought Christian nurture through his studies at Nyack College (NY), where he earned a Bachelor Degree in sacred music. Upon college graduation, Randy was licensed as an official worker in the Christian & Missionary Alliance and has served the Brewster Road Alliance Church of Birmingham, AL (1983-88), First Alliance Church of Mansfield, OH (1988-92), and the Alliance Church of Morgantown, WV (1992-2002). While serving in Morgantown, he also earned a Master of Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of West Virginia (2002), where he studied with Dr. Kathleen Shannon.
While speaking ministry has traditionally characterized most pastors, Randy has found music to be his means of communication. Music is his “tool” for ministry; his purpose is to create music for God’s good pleasure. For Randy, satisfaction comes through making music that creates an opportunity for worship that glorifies God and expresses his Word in song.
