Sue
Stranahan joined the pastoral staff of The Village Church in 2002 as
the Minister of Spiritual Care. She is a board certified chaplain and
oversees the chaplaincy program for residents in the assisted living
and skilled nursing facilities at Shell Point Retirement Community.
Sue was born and reared in Western Pennsylvania. She became a follower
of Jesus Christ through the ministry of Youth for Christ in her local
high school. A graduate of Toccoa Falls College, she served as a
missionary nurse for seventeen years in the Democratic Republic of
Congo where she developed rural health programs and educated nurses and
pastors. After completing doctoral studies in Public Health at the
University of Pittsburgh, she served for fifteen years as professor of
nursing and chair of the Division of Nursing at Indiana Wesleyan
University.
Accompanying older adults on their spiritual journey has been one of
the most rewarding ministries of her career. Sue is particularly
interested in the spiritual dimension of persons with Alzheimer’s and
related dementias and spiritual care at the end of life.
