The Village Church at Shell Point

Prior to attending college, Don worked with his father on the family farm about a mile from Pella, Iowa. Some would say that you can take the boy out of the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy. Currently, Don enjoys taking care of their lemon, lime, mango, and orange trees.

Don graduated with a BS in math and physics from Calvin College; served as an Avionics Officer in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War; attended the University of South Florida working on a Masters Degree in Plasma Physics; completed the management training program at General Telephone and worked as a supervisor in the West Tampa Service Center; attended Calvin Theological Seminary and graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree. He has been the pastor of Christian Reformed churches in Wisconsin (Milwaukee and Appleton) and Michigan (Wyoming); he completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education; is a Clinical Member of the ACPE; as an Industrial Chaplain was the director of the Employee Assistance Program for the Southeast Region of Waste Management; and currently serves as the Chaplain for the employees of the Shell Point Retirement Community.

Don and Joni have been married since 1966. Joni is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker employed by Salus Behavioral Health. They have two children and one grandson. Their children and grandson live in western Michigan and vacation in SW Florida when it is cold up north.

Don’s life verse is Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
