Mark Jacobs, Shell Point Golf Course Superintendent, Class A, was recently elected president of the local Calusa chapter of the national Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). Jacobs’ term begins in Aug. 2015 and continues until Aug. 2017.
Jacobs joined the Calusa GCSAA chapter as a delegate in 2008, and has served on its board for 6 years. “This organization provides educational and networking opportunities to gain an even greater insight into the golf industry,” said Jacobs. “Ultimately, GCSAA helps me provide a winning experience for our residents, members, and guests playing on the Shell Point golf course – and also to be a good steward of the environment.”
According to a survey by Golf Digest magazine, avid golfers ranked well-maintained greens and bunkers as the most important aspect to their enjoyment and satisfaction in playing the game of golf. Jacobs and his grounds crew’s dedicated course management at Shell Point Golf Club includes a recent greens renovation using platinum paspalum grass to enhance the playing experience.
