With a newly renovated Platinum Paspalum championship golf course and the staff addition of an accomplished golf professional to manage it, there has never been a better time to become a Shell Point Golf Club member.
Since opening for play in October of 2000, Shell Point’s 18-hole, par-71 championship golf course is one of the many amenities enjoyed by residents and members of the surrounding community. The course plays from 4,278 to 6,546 yards and challenges players of all skill levels, with five sets of tees for men and two for ladies. And now, after several years of planning and closing for the summer to complete a comprehensive greens reconstruction project, the course has reopened to rave reviews from members and guests.
Shell Point Golf Club’s $625,000 renovation included redesigning each hole, increasing the size of the greens, and modifying some of the course shapes and contours. The new Platinum Paspalum putting surfaces have a new, luxurious texture. The project was a collaborative effort involving Glase Golf Construction of Bonita Springs; the United States Golf Association; certified agronomists; and the original course architect, G. Gordon Lewis.
Along with new greens and tee times seven days in advance, the benefits of membership are many: unlimited range balls; bag storage; reciprocals; free men’s’ and ladies’ Golf Association dues, free handicap, reduced golf cart fees, and walking privileges.
Members also benefit from the expertise of Shell Point’s new golf course manager, Gary Keating, who was named the Southwest Florida PGA Player of the Year in 1996, 1997, and 1999. He also qualified and played in the 1995 and 1997 Honda Classic. A 16-time Challenge Cup Competitor, Keating was named Golf Teacher of the Year for Southwest Florida in 2001 and 2002. He was also featured in several golfing magazines after he made four Eagles in one round of golf in the Powder Puff Pro-Am in 1991. A record Holder at 19 Golf Courses, Gary worked with 15 touring golf professionals from PGA tour, senior tour, Ladies LPGA tour, the Canadian tour, and the European tour. Keating is ready to handle everything from lessons to club repair.
“This is an exciting time for Shell Point Golf Club,” said Keating. “With the wonderful upgrade to the course and an increased focus on customer service, we are ready for a great season. Everyone who has returned to the Club is truly impressed by the renovations—the quality is amazing.”
