SHELL POINT DONATES TO LOCAL FOOD PANTRY
The Shell Point ‘Cares’ Program Provided Healthy and Delicious Food to F.I.S.H. in Time for Thanksgiving
FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 21, 2012)

Shell Point Retirement Community’s “Shell Point Cares” program donated several bags of nutritious food to the F.I.S.H. Food Pantry on Sanibel Island to help those in need during the holidays. Staff members of Shell Point Assisted Living visited F.I.S.H. on Sanibel to drop off this generous gift.

“With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, this donation could not have arrived at a better time,” said Christine Swiersz, F.I.S.H. Program Director. “We are planning to provide over 42 families a full Thanksgiving meal. Shell Point’s donation will greatly assist our many clients in need around the holidays and will help to re-stock our year-round food pantry. We truly appreciate Shell Point for offering a helping hand so we can continue to help our neighbors on the Islands.”

"With Shell Point Retirement Community being in such close proximity to Sanibel Island, we truly consider the Island to be one of our closest neighbors,” said McKenzie Millis, Assisted Living Healthcare Marketing Specialist. “We are proud to support F.I.S.H. in its mission of neighbors helping neighbors. We work closely with the entire F.I.S.H. team in sharing resources and expertise in the healthcare and retirement arena.

“With so many Sanibel residents retiring to Shell Point it is great to see how many Shell Point residents are still active volunteers or supporters of F.I.S.H. Often we have Sanibel residents choosing the skilled nursing facility at Shell Point for a short term rehab stay. It is a pleasure to work with F.I.S.H in setting up Meals on Wheels or the daily assurance calls program to help our neighbors returning to Sanibel to live as independently as possible. We value our partnership and work closely with F.I.S.H. in serving seniors throughout our community," said Millis.

The mission of F.I.S.H., Friends in Service Here on Sanibel “Neighbors helping Neighbors,” is to lend a helping hand to those in need who live, work or visit Sanibel and Captiva by providing free services such as transportation, food pantry, meal delivery, health equipment, and emergency financial assistance through a group of volunteers who care about enhancing the quality of life for all those who request help.

“This past September, at the peak of our off-season, we had 124 island families visiting the food pantry on a regular basis.” said Maggie Feiner, F.I.S.H. Executive Director. “We are so grateful for Shell Point’s continued support and this generous food donation to help us keep our food pantry stocked.”
