At Florida's largest retirement resort, we get a lot of questions. Here are quick answers to some of the more frequently asked questions.

Q. What is Shell Point? Rentals? Condominiums? Gated community?

A. Shell Point is a continuing care retirement community. Residents enter into a contract by which they receive a maintenance-free residence, a full package of amenities and services, and the guarantee of care for life. The community's tropical location and unsurpassed amenities often lead people to think they're in an exclusive gated community. Shell Point is not in the real estate business, but rather here to care for, serve, and satisfy our residents.

Q. How old do you have to be to move into Shell Point?

A. The minimum age for residency is 60.

Q. How long has Shell Point been in existence?

A. Shell Point was founded in 1968 by The Christian and Missionary Alliance, a denomination based in Colorado Springs, CO. It has always operated under the same conservative management as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit ministry. Currently, almost 2,000 people of all faiths and backgrounds are Shell Point residents. Q. What does it cost to live at Shell Point?

A. Residents pay a one-time entrance fee (currently ranging from $100,000 to $539,000) which secures assisted living and skilled nursing care for life, whenever they may need it and however long they may need it. A monthly maintenance fee (currently ranging from $1,212 to $4,410) covers housekeeping and maintenance, all utilities, and access to the amenities and facilities. A good rule of thumb is: if you own a home, you generally can afford to move to Shell Point.

Q. Are pets allowed?

A. Dogs (up to 20 pounds), cats, tropical birds, and fish are allowed. For more details, contact us and ask about our Pet Policy.
