The Glorious History and Culture of Thailand and Phuket

Professor Adrian Kerr will trace the origins of the Thai people, including a look at the founding of the early empires and capitals, the rise of the Chakri Dynasty, and how Thailand avoided the colonialism that overtook the rest of South East Asia. Professor Kerr will review the political turmoil that has befallen the country recently and the role of the highly respected king in maintaining stability - for now. The course will come to a close with a review of the fascinating history and colorful highlights of Phuket Island and how it has recovered after the devastating tsunami of 2004. Shell Point Retirement Community will host several informational meetings in September to allow residents of Southwest Florida the opportunity to learn about the numerous resort style retirement options available at Shell Point. One of Shell Point's experienced retirement counselors will offer a brief presentation on the benefits of life care at Shell Point, which will include a tour of the Island community, and model units in The Woodlands, as well as the many amenities that are available to residents at Shell Point. The informative presentations will also incorporate information about Shell Point's newest neighborhood, The Estuary, which will include 50 residences in a combination of single-family signature homes and twin villa homes, along with a community center and pool. Join Dr. Edward Danehy, MD, Level III Cardiac MR and Cardiac CT Trained with Radiology Regional Center, for a presentation about scans used to measure the heart and assess overall heart health. The Ultrafast CT Scan Screening is a quick and simple test which assess risk of heart attack by detecting and measuring the amount of calcium build-up in the coronary arteries. Multislice CT Coronary Angiography is an alternative to Conventional Coronary Angiography. This noninvasive CT study can evaluate the degree of overall plaque by visualizing both calcified and noncalcified plaque. Fall Prevention and Medication

Every 15 minutes, an older adult is seen in an emergency department for a fall-related injury. Oftentimes, side effects from medications can cause dizziness and increase your risk of a fall. Join Shell Point Pharmacist Joy Darnell, along with Mark Tesoro, analyst/educator for Lee Memorial Health System, on Fall Prevention Awareness Day for a presentation about the importance of regularly reviewing your medications with a healthcare professional, taking medications as prescribed, and understanding how your medications affect your body.
